Survey: Country in midst of centrist era

There's no way that's true!

WASHINGTON – Barack Obama's presidency has ushered in an era of centrism, with the country experiencing such a boost in independent voters that they now make up the largest proportion of the electorate in 70 years.

This fickle group doesn't have uniform opinions, so its dominance carries potential risks for emboldened Democrats and opportunities for out-of-power Republicans.

A new, expansive Pew Research Center survey that contained those details also found that the nation's values haven't fundamentally changed. The country hasn't become more ideologically liberal or conservative despite sweeping Democratic victories at all levels of government last fall and shrinking GOP ranks.

Broadly, the findings indicate that it's politically dangerous for the new president and his fellow Democrats who control Congress to move too far to the left on domestic and foreign issues, lest they turn off middle-of-the-road voters whose support was critical in 2008 and will be important in upcoming elections.

Why can't it be true?

Yes it is and its been true for years.Bush got elected claiming he was a centrist (compassionate conservative was the slogan).Obama got elected as a centrist as well whether those on the right will admit to it or not.He has governed that way so far as well but I know some will stay claim he is some far left socialist lol.

The country being very unhappy on the lenght of "the war on terror" i.e. us stuck in Iraq of the past eight years, the working middle class being scared shitless, a growing younger voting generation of "entitlement" i.e. the goverment has to make it right for me on "everything" in life. I think I am still in the center and this goverment, perharps even the country took a swing to the left on November '08. There's no way Bush was a centrist either.

I know where you are going with the 'entitlement' thing but generationally by some margin the net beneficiaries of goverment 'entitlements' are the wrinklies not the younger voters.

where am I going? it's what it is...a younger generation who does not want to own up to anyhting...it's "cool" and "tight" when you don't get caugh and get away, but when the chips are against you then it's unfair so someone else has to make it right.

Actions speak louder than words. Our Dear Leader spoke very eloquently in his campaign, said what he had to say to get elected but now that he's in power, where is the "centrist" we elected? His "solutions" don't seem to be working. Unemployment is going to go up, the bail out money that was supposed to help the auto industry didn't do any good, they're about to file for chapter 11, so that was a waste of billions, same thing with the bailout money for the banks that were "too big to fail" they're still going to fail, now he's nationalizing the auto industry, wants to nationalize health care, the energy industry, silence talk radio (what about the 1st amendment), and his appointment to the supreme court is someone who believes that the judiciary should be making legislation (that's the job of congress for those of you who don't know or need to be reminded), give me evidence of his being a centrist.

American capitalism gone with a whimper

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

I just found this article and it kinda relates to this thread for page two here's the link to it...

Not with a bang but a whimper.

The Hollow Men, TS Eliot

maybe the whimper of a new birth?

No it certainly hasn't. Not even close. Except for a few cosmetic changes it's not any different than before.

And if someday "American Capitalism" really does disappear in this country, GOOD RIDENCE. It's been a blight on us for about at least the past 40 years.

That's right folks, turn in your kids, they could be commie spies!

That was the title of the article I give credit to it's source underneath it and a link to the second page.

I think the state has been taking over our kids for awhile back. We should be worried about our kids turning us in.

Look is not the end of the world, but my point is, with all this big time goverment involvement there's no way the media is going to sell me that this is how a "centrist" country feels like.

Obama sticks to his campaign pledge of bipartisanship and working with Republicans.

He appoints Republican John McHugh to Secretary of the Army. His second Republican appointment.
