I'm 77 years old, starting from the age of 65 I woke up at about 3 a.m. and thought something was wrong with me - but hearing that it was part of the natural change with age brought me a lot of discomfort. 🕰 [17:59] I'm 70, and waking up around 3 a.m. has been a quiet companion for years. This video didn’t just explain the “why,” it helped me feel less alone-and even comforted. Sometimes, it’s not the sleep that’s broken, but the heart needing space to breathe. Thank you for such gentle wisdom. 🌙

I'm 80, and last year I traveled to Switzerland to visit family. I returned home feeling stronger and healthier than before! (Lots of walking, fresh farm food, and quality sleep made a big difference.) I also learned that after forgetting my eye drops at home, I could easily get replacements from a pharmacist since they can prescribe-thankfully, I had photos of my meds and details. Stay as active as possible-it truly makes a difference! 😘😘😘

I am 62. I have always slept good until Menopause at 50 yrs old. Everything changed. For the last year I've been waking up any where from 3am - 4:30am every morning. I don't fight it and lay in bed miserable, instead I get up and I get some things done. When I get tired in the day I take a nap. No harm, no fowl. I kinda like it now. It's quiet and peaceful and I don't get any unwanted interruptions. I say just go with it!

      My
Problems with sleep started at birth. Not a joke. My mother claimed I was born on the wrong side of the clock. I was a night time baby. Had trouble all my life with this. Life was easiest when I worked midnights and afternoons . Day shift was always a challenge. Then I retired in 2010. At sixty everything was well. My wife works late hours and our bedtime has always been around 2 am. Then in 2020. It hit. This whole shift in sleeping. And it was causing me a great deal of stress. Seemed like my sleeping was cut in half. Couldn't sleep more than four hours, no matter what. Finally saw my Doctor, and he gave me pills. Took a few and won't take any more. So now, a long with this video, I found out this is all normal. At 75. I'm awake when I am awake, and asleep when I am asleep. Beating yourself up at our age doesn't do one bit of good. My formula. I heard some one say that black and white TV doesn't affect you like color, so I tuned out the color, and watch black and white TV. A shot of bourbon, I don't trust pills. And it's of to Dreamland, for how ever long. Good luck, just go with the flow.

John, a retired teacher, kept waking up at 3 AM, staring at the quiet ceiling. At first, he thought it was just aging, but deep down, he missed his late wife, who used to hold his hand at night. One evening, his grandson visited and stayed over, listening to John's stories until dawn. That night, for the first time in years, John slept peacefully. Love and connection were the real cure he needed.

I’m 74, and this video hit home. I’ve been waking up around 3:15AM almost every day for the past few years. At first, I thought something was wrong-heart, anxiety, maybe too much tea. But after a while, I realized it was just a shift in my rhythm.
Now, I actually enjoy those early hours. I sit with my coffee, journal a little, sometimes just listen to the quiet. It’s become a kind of peace I never expected to find.

I'm 67 now, and like many women, sleep was never an issue-until menopause hit at 50. It was like flipping a switch. Since then, peaceful nights have become rare treasures. This past year, I find myself waking up between 3 and 4:30am almost every single morning. At first, it was frustrating. I felt like something precious had been taken from me.
But over time, I stopped resisting. Instead of lying there in frustration, I started getting up. I make tea, read, write in my journal, sometimes just sit in the stillness. The world is so quiet at that hour. No distractions. Just me, and my thoughts. When sleepiness returns during the day, I let myself rest. I’ve made peace with this new rhythm.
There’s something unexpectedly beautiful about it now. It's my own little pocket of calm in a noisy world. To anyone going through this-listen to your body, be kind to yourself, and flow with the change. There’s still magic to be found in these early hours.

You should discuss "second sleep." There is some evidence from our recent past that suggests this period of wakefulness occurring between two separate sleep periods was the norm. Waking up used to bother me, but now I just take it as it is, and don't fret over it. Sometimes I get up and read or do a small chore and go back to bed. Those are some of my most restful nights.

Waking up at 3am is the perfect time to do laundry when utility rates are low. Scrub the bathroom or vacuum. By now you’re getting tired. Take out your Bible and start reading Leviticus. You’ll be asleep in 3 minutes!

My grandfather used to wake up at 3 AM every night, and we always thought it was just a habit. But after talking to his doctor, we realized it was linked to his sleep cycle and overall health. Understanding the reasons behind it really helped improve his rest. Have you or a loved one experienced this?

One Way I do. Is Go to My Open Air balcony. On Level 9 in Singapore, with a few Large trees near. Then I do Deep Breathing, hold my breath for the count of Ten, breath out.
    Do this 10 times.
Then go back to Bed, to enjoy a Refreshing Deeper Sleep. After Urinating. As I take a Few Sips if Structured Water 💧
It really does work well for Me. 😂

Many thanks for this important lecture. I am 78 and have had this early wake up for several years. In reference to the chemical aspect, i.e. the lack of enough Melatonin, is there any food one could eat in the evening to boost Melatonin, like chocolate?

I am 73, and had the same problem for twenty years. A hippy friend of mine suggested I take some marijuana butter at bedtime. I tried it and it works great. I sleep until at least 7 every morning. Get up totally refreshed. I never experience any high, or any dizziness. I just fall asleep and wake up at 7. The marijuana butter is easy to make and store. I fill a gelatin capsule and swallow it .

These are good things to know! My 3am wakeup isn't due to going to bed earlier, though - if anything, since I retired I go to bed much later and it seems to fit my body rhythm. Going to bed before 11 or 12 is a sure sign I'll be wide awake in about 2 hours. And - oh my - if I take a nap during the day - I'm wide awake until 5am! The good part is I don't have any thoughts going through my head - just not tired.

I go to bed normally around 8pm and wake up around 2 morning!
I guess my body is telling me 6 hours sleep is enough for you but I wished it at least would make it 10pm to 4am instead! Then I will be happy!

Usually wake to go to the bathroom. There was a time, in my younger years, when I never had a problem falling asleep and staying asleep. After 8 hours of sleep I would wake up refreshed, with energy and ready to greet the day. Now at 67 this has changed, and pray that the day comes soon when I don't wake up. Too tired and depressed. Melatonin does not help me. However, thank you for your caring video. Now it takes ZzzQuill, a couple of beers, klonazapam, muscle relaxers, lavender and chamomile together, CBD....I know longer care.

I,m 64 ,Retired and in bed most nights for 7:30pm. Happily married and I often wake up about 3:am. Her Son gets up for work at 3:am and my Wife at 5:30am. So the restlessness of them getting up as now become my body clock. I get back to sleep eventually for about 7:pm. So being awake for 4 hours 5 times a week is normal for me now. I go for a walk most days for about 40 mins. But I,ve found unfortunately after hitting 50 my body is not what it is. But I don't let it bother me ,because there are those more unfortunate than myself, good Health everyone, Steve.
